How to use
Verify Number — enter a 9-digit ABA routing number. Optionally include the institution name to cross-check it. The tool validates format, checksum, and registry.
Look Up Institution — enter a bank or credit union name to find its routing number(s).
Result states
- VALID
- Number passes all checks. Institution name and address confirmed.
- INVALID
- Format or checksum failure — likely a typo. No registry call was made.
- WARNING
- Number is valid but the institution name you entered doesn't match the registry. Review carefully.
- NOT FOUND
- Number passes checksum but isn't in the registry. It may be defunct or not yet listed. Verify directly with the institution.
Limitations
- Brokerages are not banks. Firms like Edward Jones, Fidelity, and Schwab don't hold their own ABA routing numbers — they route through a clearing bank. The tool knows the most common relationships and will explain them when it finds a match.
- ABA only. This tool covers US domestic ACH and wire routing numbers. SWIFT codes and IBAN numbers are not supported.
- Data freshness. The registry is sourced from the Federal Reserve and updated quarterly. Newly chartered institutions may not appear immediately.
